“Making A World Of Difference”
Monday August 22, 2016
Dear 5th Grader,
Welcome to the big building, your new classroom and to the 2016-2017 school year! I am really excited that we will be working together this year. We will be doing a lot of learning, developing ourselves as young adults and growing over the next ten months. My hope is that we have an enjoyable year, one full of great memories. In order to do that, we all need to work together as a classroom and school community.
The majority of today, and this week, will be spent getting to know your new building and classroom, setting up materials, going over rules and routines, diving into our subjects and having fun! You’ll learn about 5th grade, practice fire drills, new lunch and recess time and meet all of the students in our class. We will have a lot to accomplish this week, but it is totally manageable. You will also begin getting homework on Tuesday August 23, 2016. Remember learning is great exercise for your brain!
In the beginning weeks, we will begin praying together and getting acquainted. I will tell you a little about me and I would like to learn a little about you!
Once again, welcome or welcome back to St. Pius V School, the big building and OUR CLASSROOM! May this school year be filled with peace, love, respect, kindness, dedication, learning and fun!
Sincerely,
Ms. Hawkins

Dear 5th Grade Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the big building, your child’s new classroom and to the 2016-2017 school year! My name is Meghan Hawkins and I will be your child’s 5th grade teacher this year. This is my 15th year teaching and my 10th year at St. Pius V School. I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work from St. Norbert College and my Masters Degree in Education from DePaul University.
I am really excited that we will be working together this year. We will be doing a lot of learning, developing ourselves as young adults and growing in faith over the next ten months. My hope is that we have an enjoyable year, one full of great memories. In order to do that, we all need to work together as a classroom and school community.
I am also asking you to become a partner with me in your child’s education. I will only have your child for a short time, but I want to make a contribution that will last a lifetime. My teaching begins with making your child feel at home in OUR classroom and helping them grow academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. The 5th grade classroom is made up of unique individuals, each with his or her own learning style, interests, history, hopes, goals and dreams.
Attached to this letter is a parent questionnaire. I ask that you take some time to write about your child. You are your child’s first educators, and you know what it takes to help your child become successful. I ask that you continue to be an important part of your child’s education by completing this questionnaire and sharing your expertise with me. I want to know how your child thinks and learns best in order to meet your child’s individual learning style.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at anytime. You can call me at school at 312-226-1590 or email me at [email protected].
Once again, welcome or welcome back to St. Pius V School, the big building and OUR CLASSROOM! May this school year be filled with peace, love, respect, kindness, dedication, learning and fun!
Sincerely,
Ms. Meghan C. Hawkins
